Ante Up

There are more than enough poker shows out there and frankly – most of them suck. Poker isn’t more fun to watch just because you throw in some celebrities that haven’t done anything worth while since Reagan was president. Usually I stay away from poker on TV, but my favorite show is finally back for its second season. :-)

“High Stakes Poker” is the real deal. The worlds best poker players are putting their hard earned cash on the line in each and every hand. High stakes cash games, this is poker in its purest form. Every pot matters and you can not fold your way into the money. So be sure to check out “High Stakes Poker” – Monday nights at GSN.

Every way to promote poker is a good way – I guess. The latest attempt is “Miss Poker Face”, a competition where they search for beautiful girls that can play poker.

Local qualifiers will be held in a bunch of countries; Denmark, Germany, Spain, Sweden, and US of A, among others. You can sign up through www.misspokerface.com, but I am not sure I will be able to qualify.

Local Miss Poker Face winners will compete for the Miss Poker Face 2007 title. I will be there looking for my future wife. :-)

The “I’ll Raise You a Million Challenge,” was launched last week. It challenges Americans to raise $1 million in one year and help The Cancer Research and Prevention Foundation (CRPF) reach its ultimate goal of a cancer-free future. Working together with CRPF in the campaign is Phil Gordon, who has been doing fundraising to fight cancer for a long time.
Make a difference by donating money at www.preventcancer.org. If you do you will also receive one of Gordon’s autographed books or DVDs. You can also make a pledge at www.badbeatoncancer.org. So join poker players from across the globe and show that you care.

Hi!
I recently got an e-mail with an interesting and important question that I thought I should share with you.

“Concerning my bankroll, what do I have to worry about tax-wise? With most sites out of the US, am I legally responsible for paying taxes on winnings from other countries and, if so, how much?” Juggernaut Jake

This is not easy to answer, but generally US citizens have to tax online winnings. To find out more about the US rules, how to compute your income, keep tax records etc, have a look here

I know, most people don’t like to pay taxes, but if you have to do it you must be a winning player. :-)
